About the position

The Director of Clinical Operations at Midwestern University's Animal Health Institute (AHI) is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and enhancing clinical services. This position involves strategic planning, operational management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards. The Director will report directly to the Dean and play a critical role in the development and implementation of clinical strategies, resource management, and educational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a visionary leader to advance the AHI clinical operations.
  • Advise the Dean on clinical operations and strategic planning.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance clinical services.
  • Oversee operations of the AHI facilities, including renovations and maintenance.
  • Assist Department Chairs and AHI managers in supervising clinical faculty and staff.
  • Provide budget oversight and allocate resources for successful operations.
  • Ensure compliance with medical records regulations and oversee electronic health record systems.
  • Serve as a media spokesperson for the AHI and point of contact for facility needs.
  • Contribute to AVMA-COE interim and self-study reports.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Education to create partnerships for external clinical rotations.
  • Manage clinical activities of faculty, locums, house officers, and hospital staff.
  • Ensure high-quality patient and client care and oversee clinical services.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to develop clinical teaching innovations.
  • Provide clinical research oversight on logistics of conducting trials.
  • Serve on various committees related to clinic leadership and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate marketing operations and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or an advanced degree (MS, MBA, PhD) in a relevant field.
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in academic administration or corporate veterinary practice management.
  • Board certification in veterinary specialty or membership with Veterinary Hospital Management Association (VHMA) preferred.
  • Strong management and mentoring abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Experience in veterinary specialty board certification.
