About the position

The Director of Clinical Operations for Surgical Services at Harborview Medical Center is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all clinical and operational aspects of the surgical services department. This includes managing the operating rooms, pre and post-anesthesia services, and all ancillary support programs. The Director will work to maximize operating room capacity and block utilization, while also identifying and removing barriers that may hinder volume growth. This position requires active participation in hospital-level business development activities to establish reasonable targets and strategic opportunities surrounding perioperative care. In this role, the Director will monitor and maintain performance practice standards, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that defined targets and performance standards are consistently met. The Director will be responsible for meeting or exceeding all key performance indicators established for the operating room by enforcing industry-recognized practices for staff and physician workflows. Additionally, the Director will ensure that all activities within the operating room comply with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, and will participate in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive Infection Control Program. Budget development and monitoring will also fall under the Director's purview, along with the recruitment, retention, and hiring of qualified candidates. This position is expected to take rotating call with other leaders in the department, ensuring that leadership is available to address any operational needs that arise during off-hours. The Director will play a crucial role in shaping the future of surgical services at Harborview Medical Center, contributing to the overall mission of providing high-quality, state-of-the-art healthcare to the community.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Master of Science in Nursing or related field.
  • Five or more years of senior leadership experience in a hospital-based surgical service department.
  • Have or obtain a WA state RN license or MSL.
