About the position

The Director of Clinical Research at Northwest Medical Specialties is responsible for overseeing the clinical research program at the MultiCare Cancer Institute and its affiliated institutions. This role involves leading the clinical research team to ensure that sponsored research is conducted efficiently, on time, and within budget while meeting quality standards. The Director also plays a key role in business development for oncology research, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering collaborations with various stakeholders to enhance clinical trial access in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Directs multiple and increasingly complex oncology clinical research projects across clinics, hospitals, and affiliate locations.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans.
  • Establishes and facilitates relationships with leadership, physicians, sponsors & CROs, research networks, and community groups to assure research needs are met.
  • Promotes oncology research by supporting business development and maintaining key information and statistics used by sponsors to select research sites.
  • Cultivates and maintains sponsor and CRO relationships and shares and maintains business development leads and pipeline.
  • Plans, coordinates, and directs the oversight of all aspects of oncology clinical research operations to ensure clinical studies are delivered efficiently to timeline, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Works closely with other research leaders and managers to ensure effective administration of clinical trials to meet targeted enrollments, contract deliverables, audit-ready status, and financial targets.
  • Provides direction and collaboration for research opportunities to ensure appropriate trial mix to support patient population needs as well as financial needs for the portfolio.
  • Develops and implements onboarding plans and training for all research roles to streamline efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
  • Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures to improve organizational performance standards.
  • Collaborates with leadership on budgets and financial tracking to ensure programs are achieving set metrics and financial goals.
  • Establishes and meets budget for all oncology research programs.
  • Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values, continuously learning, and performing other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Ensures the quality requirements and compliance with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) developed with site networks or site management organizations (SMO).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in clinical research at a clinical research site or healthcare facility or pharmaceutical/biotech organization.
  • Two (2) years of experience as Director at a clinical research site in clinical research operations or management or substitute with five (5) years of experience as Manager at a clinical research site in clinical research operations or management.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a managerial capacity.
  • Oncology research experience preferred.
  • Clinical licensure preferred (RN, ARNP, PharmD, etc.).
  • Current Washington State Driver's License and proof of a safe driving record.
