About the position

The Director of Cloud and Infrastructure is a pivotal role at Rush University Medical Center, responsible for overseeing and managing the organization's technology infrastructure to ensure its smooth and efficient operation. This position requires a strategic leader who will collaborate closely with the leadership team to develop and implement technology strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives. The Director will be accountable for the availability, reliability, and security of IT systems, ensuring that all technology resources are utilized effectively to support the hospital's mission of providing high-quality healthcare services. In this role, the Director will manage a team of IT professionals, providing leadership and guidance to ensure the delivery of high-quality technical support to all users. The responsibilities include defining, documenting, and enforcing established network and security policy standards, as well as working with vendors on system design upgrades and investigating new technologies. The Director will also be involved in Information Security and Disaster Recovery testing, responding to escalated Help Desk ticket requests, and establishing a sound and stable networking environment by monitoring performance and troubleshooting network problems. The Director will create and maintain a knowledge base by documenting issues and their resolutions, work in conjunction with other IT departments to securely plan and deploy new functions, and provide system and security architectural support across local, regional, and global areas. Additionally, the Director will evaluate new technologies to help build, maintain, and improve the IT environment, manage communication during outage situations, and guide engineers from different groups to resolve outages efficiently. This role requires a proactive and innovative approach to technology management, ensuring that the organization remains at the forefront of healthcare technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Define, document, and enforce established network and security policy standards.
  • Work with vendors on system design upgrades and investigate new technologies.
  • Be involved with Information Security and Disaster Recovery testing.
  • Respond to escalated Help Desk ticket requests requiring additional technical support.
  • Establish a sound and stable networking environment by monitoring performance and troubleshooting network problems.
  • Create and add content to a knowledgebase by documenting issues and their resolutions.
  • Work in conjunction with other IT departments to securely plan, deploy, design, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Provide system and security architectural and engineering support across local, regional, and global areas.
  • Evaluate new technologies to help build, maintain, improve, and document the IT environment.
  • Manage communication and coordination of resources during outage situations.
  • Guide engineers from different groups to work together to resolve outages and restore business functionality quickly.
  • Provide leadership to managers, Architects, and all engineer levels as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field.
  • Experience related to server infrastructure, database, UNIX, Linux, Windows, Operating Systems, VMware, Citrix, Networking, LAN/WAN, Firewall, Active Directory, Exchange, Security, Client Computing, Back-up Systems, Data Center Operations, Storage, ITIL Systems, telecommunications/voice, Call center systems, etc.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and supporting applications deployed in a 24x7 healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated success implementing and managing large, complex, enterprise-class solutions.
  • Demonstrated success using effective communication and interpersonal skills to lead others directly or indirectly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Demonstrated success being proactive and innovative.
  • Prior experience using industry established project management techniques in accomplishing strategic objectives.
  • Experienced with ITSM functionalities such as change control, CMDB, ticket system.
  • In-depth understanding of disaster recovery, design, implementation, and testing.
  • Ability and availability to work occasional nights/weekends assignments as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment to ensure performance, reliability, and security in a dynamic 24-7-365 production network environment.
  • Customer-focused attitude.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal.

  • Ten (10) years of Infrastructure Engineering experience.
  • Seven (7) years of experience leading technical teams.
  • Seven (7) years of experience with infrastructure technology support and implementation.
  • Experience in managing infrastructure implementation and support in an owned and colo environment.
  • ITIL foundations certification.
  • Cloud experience.
