About the position

The Hartford's Enterprise Data Services (EDS) is seeking a Director of Cloud Data Architecture who will play a pivotal role in modernizing and simplifying a portfolio of assets that support the Commercial Lines and Sales & Distribution portfolio. This position is designed for a leader who is passionate about data architecture and is ready to take on the challenge of transforming data systems to meet the evolving needs of the business. The role will involve a hybrid work arrangement, requiring in-office presence in Hartford, CT, or Charlotte, NC, three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). In this role, you will be responsible for designing and delivering the Data Architecture strategy for Commercial Lines and Sales & Distribution. This includes collaborating directly with senior stakeholders across various functional areas to ensure alignment and effectiveness in data management. You will develop and maintain both current and target state data architectures, defining strategies and roadmaps to guide transformation efforts. A key aspect of your responsibilities will be to create a roadmap for Data Transformation, addressing challenges related to legacy technology stacks, complex data pipelines, data freshness, delivery speed, and quality. This will involve modernizing and simplifying existing data assets to enhance operational efficiency. You will also be tasked with creating architecture patterns for both Hybrid and Cloud Data ecosystems, including AWS Cloud, Snowflake, and On-Premises solutions. Your role will require you to analyze emerging business and technology trends, such as Generative AI, and translate these trends into actionable capabilities within functional and technology domains. Additionally, you will design architecture patterns that utilize near real-time or real-time data cache for integration with operational systems, ensuring that data governance and best practices are defined and enforced. As a thought leader within the Enterprise Data Services Architecture Center of Excellence, you will drive architecture standards, best practices, and governance processes to ensure compliance with the overall data strategy. You will architect and design large-scale Data Ecosystems, leveraging modern data and analytical tools, and lead initiatives for continuous improvement, ensuring alignment between business strategies and technology roadmaps. Your leadership will extend to mentoring and coaching technical teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration focused on business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver the Data Architecture strategy for Commercial Lines and Sales & Distribution.
  • Develop and maintain both current and target state data architectures.
  • Create a roadmap for Data Transformation addressing legacy technology challenges.
  • Create architecture patterns for Hybrid and Cloud Data ecosystems including AWS Cloud and Snowflake.
  • Analyze emerging business and technology trends and translate them into actionable capabilities.
  • Design architecture patterns using near real-time or real-time data cache for integration with operational systems.
  • Define and enforce data architecture standards, procedures, metrics, and policies.
  • Drive positive change and simplification while improving delivery speed.
  • Mature data architecture processes and establish reference architectures.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement ensuring alignment between business strategies and technology roadmaps.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to technical teams.
  • Collaborate with extended architecture, business, and IT support teams to develop functional and technical blueprints.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Architecture, design and development of large-scale data ecosystems.
  • Mastery level Data Architecture skills with a deep understanding of data architecture patterns, data warehouse, integration, data lake, data domains, and cloud technology capabilities.
  • Strong experience with design and development of complex data ecosystems leveraging AWS Cloud, PySpark, and Snowflake.
  • In-depth knowledge of Data management strategies, principles, and practices including data quality, data governance, and metadata management.
  • Robust Data Architecture skills with direction-setting capabilities and understanding of industry trends.
  • Knowledge of technology and information systems focusing on data analysis, data modeling, and reporting tools.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Understanding of enterprise data models and utilization of transactional and relational data from systems like Policy Admin.
  • Strong presentation and collaboration skills with a customer service orientation.
