About the position

The Director of Cloud Engineering will lead and inspire a team of engineers and managers at a prestigious financial institution, focusing on the development and retention of talent while driving results in the cloud platform. This role emphasizes collaboration with various stakeholders to build a reliable, scalable, and secure technology stack using industry best practices, particularly within AWS.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams to foster a high-performing culture.
  • Drive results in the cloud platform by collaborating with engineers and leaders.
  • Develop and implement strategies for talent growth and retention.
  • Ensure the cloud technology stack is reliable, scalable, and secure.
  • Oversee software design and development, database architectures, and cloud operations.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and influence across the organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams with a focus on talent development.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, particularly with AWS.
  • Strong leadership skills with a people-focused approach.
  • Masterful communication skills for effective information sharing.
  • Ability to manage details to support execution and remove roadblocks.
  • Understanding of inclusivity and diversity in team dynamics.
  • Basic understanding of operating systems, especially Linux.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS services, particularly platform and core services.
  • Functional understanding of security, compliance, and cloud networking principles.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Lean methodologies and automation principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS Solution Architect Professional certification.
