About the position

Temple Beth Am (TBA) is a forward-thinking, intimate, and innovative community dedicated to celebrating traditional and innovative Judaism. Located in the Pico-Robertson area of Los Angeles, TBA serves over 900 households in the synagogue and approximately 500 students in their Pressman Academy (ECC through eighth grade) and Jewish Learning Community. The congregation is known for its robust Shabbat minyanim, warm and engaging community, and extensive educational offerings for children and adults. We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated communications professional who will provide direction in effectively communicating all happenings at our dynamic synagogue. This position reports to our Executive Director and supervises another Communications team member. You will also work closely with our clergy, and the membership and programming departments. The Director of Communications and Marketing will develop and implement multi-channel strategies (email, print, text, social media) to gain authentic and engaged participants organically, with a framework that includes metrics-based goals to measure impact. The role involves overseeing all aspects of internal and external communications to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms. The successful candidate will implement deeper personalization mechanics to improve relevance and open rates of messaging, serve as the Editor of a bi-monthly print newsletter, and manage the congregational website with the support of a team member, including maintenance and regular updates using WordPress. Additionally, the Director will assist with calendaring events and associated communication schedules, create forms and data exports as needed, oversee a schedule of congregational and targeted emails, and design creative promotional material for events, holidays, and other institutional happenings. Staying updated on industry trends and best practices in communications, advertising, and digital marketing is essential, as well as utilizing analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of communication campaigns.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, social media analytics, Google docs, Google Calendar.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling messages for various demographics.
  • Experience with content creation across multiple platforms.
  • Natural ability to learn new programs and software, such as our website, database, etc.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Top-notch organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • 3-5 years proven experience in a similar role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with graphic design.
  • Familiarity with Jewish holidays, life cycles, and Jewish life.
  • Familiarity with ShulCloud, Constant Contact, Monday.com, WordPress and Canva.
