About the position

The Director of Communications at Glenstone Museum is a strategic and creative leader responsible for overseeing all communications, marketing, and branding initiatives. This role is crucial in aligning the museum's messaging with its mission and vision during a period of growth. The Director will collaborate with the core management team to address institutional issues and build a comprehensive communications program that supports both immediate and long-term goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Communication Department and develop short and long-term communication strategies to advance the museum's mission.
  • Manage up to three direct reports within the Communications department.
  • Anticipate the communication needs of the organization based on the vision and strategic plan.
  • Implement Glenstone brand guidelines, voice, tone, and editorial style across all communication channels.
  • Develop and manage a communication strategy and timeline for content distribution across all platforms.
  • Create communication plans to raise awareness of programs, exhibitions, and events.
  • Oversee website updates and maintenance.
  • Support internal communications structures in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Develop marketing plans to increase audience outreach while supporting institutional goals.
  • Manage analytics (KPIs) for the communications strategy.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of communications and/or public media relations experience with knowledge of digital communications.
  • Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong cultural competence, interpersonal communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent writing and copyediting skills.
  • Exceptional listening skills and ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Knowledge of museum operations, the arts industry, and digital marketing for the arts.
  • Strategic understanding of digital media and best practices for key social media outlets.
