About the position

The Director of Communications at the Gwinnett Coalition is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization's internal and external communications efforts. This position aims to enhance community awareness and engagement through effective communication strategies that align with the Coalition's mission of promoting health equity and community well-being. The Director will lead a team, manage public relations, and ensure consistent messaging across various platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive communications strategies to promote the Coalition's mission and programs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for all internal and external communications, ensuring consistency and alignment with the Coalition's brand identity.
  • Manage the communications team and collaborate with internal staff, contractors, and external marketing agencies.
  • Provide strategic guidance for public relations efforts, including press releases and media outreach.
  • Lead the creation of high-quality written content for various platforms including websites and social media.
  • Develop and execute targeted communications campaigns to increase visibility and support programmatic priorities.
  • Manage editorial calendars and ensure content is relevant and timely.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of brand standards and messaging guidelines.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the Coalition in media interviews and public forums.
  • Cultivate relationships with local media to maximize positive coverage.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement to develop outreach strategies.
  • Build relationships with community leaders and stakeholders to expand the Coalition's influence.
  • Lead communications efforts for community engagement events and initiatives.
  • Oversee systems to track and evaluate the effectiveness of communications efforts.
  • Prepare regular reports on communications efforts and engagement metrics.
  • Supervise and mentor the communications team, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with the development of communication-related budgets and manage the Coalition's website.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.
  • At least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience in managing communication teams and developing strategies.
  • Experience in nonprofit communications and public relations preferred.
  • Proficiency with Content Management Systems (WordPress) and email marketing software.
  • Strong understanding of media relations and crisis communication best practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with visual communication tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
  • Knowledge of best practices related to brand development and marketing strategies.
