About the position

The Director of Communications is responsible for managing the marketing and media presence of the Quakertown Community School District. This role involves developing and implementing communication strategies that align with the district's mission, overseeing brand management, and ensuring effective internal and external communications. The position requires significant evening work and expertise in social media marketing to effectively promote school events and achievements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan that aligns with the school's mission and vision.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to identify communication priorities, goals, and target audiences.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging and visual identity across all communication channels.
  • Oversee content creation, including newsletters, press releases, social media posts, and website updates.
  • Support school leaders in maintaining transparent and timely communication with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and public statements.
  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets to promote school news, events, and achievements.
  • Manage crisis communication to ensure timely, accurate, and sensitive responses.
  • Lead social media strategy and manage school profiles to boost engagement and visibility.
  • Oversee the school's website to ensure information is current, accessible, and user-friendly.
  • Coordinate communication for school events, ensuring effective promotion to the school community.
  • Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated skills in newsletter design, website design/maintenance, and social media management.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer-based graphic design, page layout, and print production.
  • Experience with photo-editing software (e.g., Photoshop) for designing printed and web-based materials.
  • Ability to consult with internal and external clients to assess needs and recommend solutions.

  • Experience in public relations management.
