About the position

The Director of Communications at Clean & Prosperous Washington State is responsible for developing and overseeing strategic communications campaigns that enhance brand awareness and promote the organization's mission. This role involves creating and implementing communication strategies, managing external communications, and fostering relationships with partners to support the organization's goals in advancing effective climate policies. The position requires strong leadership in public relations, content creation, and stakeholder engagement to effectively communicate the organization's impact and successes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organization's internal and external communications strategy, including online and social media components.
  • Create editorial direction, writing, editing, and developing content for promotional materials across all communication channels.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote new communications materials, such as research reports or event activities.
  • Identify target audiences and understand the value provided to them.
  • Organize and promote high-profile PR events and manage the editorial calendar for communications activities.
  • Promote positive internal communications to keep staff members informed and foster collaboration.
  • Establish Clean & Prosperous Washington and the Clean & Prosperous Institute as trusted sources of reliable information.
  • Oversee program deliverables for reports, including drafting reporting schedules and templates.
  • Keep website material updated for both organizations.
  • Monitor social media ecosystems for relevant discussions and media content.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in organizational strategic communications or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in PR, Journalism, Communications, or Public Policy.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to persuade, negotiate, and resolve issues through strategic communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong writing and editorial skills.
  • Solid multitasking and time-management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in nonprofit communications.
  • Familiarity with climate policy and advocacy.
