About the position

The Director of Communications at the North Carolina Symphony plays a crucial role in the Marketing & Audience Development Department. This position focuses on strategic storytelling, social media management, press outreach, video production, and email communications. The Director is responsible for planning and executing effective internal and external communication strategies to enhance revenue, audience growth, and patron engagement, reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing & Audience Development.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates cross-departmentally to develop stories and support communications needs.
  • Achieves annual goals for brand visibility through strategic communication of the NCS story.
  • Integrates storytelling with internal stakeholders focusing on education and philanthropy.
  • Ensures adherence to key messages and branding with all constituencies.
  • Develops social media content, placement, and analytics.
  • Strategizes video production, web design, and patron electronic communications.
  • Cultivates relationships with the press.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in communications and/or public relations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word).
  • Experience managing integrated social media campaigns to achieve revenue and engagement goals.
  • Knowledge of video storyboards and production.
  • Excellent attention to detail and judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field.
