Director of Community Safety

About the position

The Director of Community Safety at the University of Colorado Boulder is responsible for fostering a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves supervising protective services, managing security operations, and collaborating with various departments to enhance safety measures. The director will also analyze security data, prepare emergency response plans, and oversee access control measures to ensure the safety of key individuals and locations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Protective Services Officers and Contract Security personnel during details as needed.
• Provide security and escort for principals during work hours and after-hour travel.
• Oversee building access control measures to ensure safe arrival and departure of principals.
• Investigate suspicious activities and unusual incidents during assigned tours.
• Analyze data regarding security activities to determine patterns affecting safety.
• Prepare and test emergency response plans for key locations.
• Conduct building security reviews and adversarial analysis on key locations.
• Develop a 5-year strategic plan for Protective Services, including budget alignment.
• Provide supervision, performance management, and professional development for team members.
• Engage in collaboration with campus partners and law enforcement agencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Six years of experience in public safety and protective services with increasing responsibilities.
• Experience supervising professional staff.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across departments.
• Experience in budget planning and justification.
