About the position

The Director of Community Services is responsible for administering a community mental hygiene program, focusing on behavioral health, alcoholism, substance abuse addictions, and developmental disabilities services. This role involves overseeing the implementation of a unified local services plan in compliance with mental hygiene statutes, recommending policies to the Community Services Board, and ensuring that services provided by community agencies meet federal and state regulations. The position requires independent judgment in planning and executing work details, with supervision over technical and clerical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the community mental hygiene program.
  • Oversee and monitor behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Recommend actions and policies to the Community Services Board.
  • Implement a unified local services plan in accordance with mental hygiene statutes.
  • Exercise independent judgment in planning and executing work details.
  • Supervise technical and clerical staff.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice medicine in New York State, board certified or board eligible in psychiatry, neurology, or pediatrics.
  • Current license by the New York State Education Department to practice as a psychologist.
  • Master's degree in social work with a current license as a certified social worker.
  • Master's degree in psychiatric mental health nursing with a current license as a registered nurse.
  • Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, public health administration, public administration, hospital administration, human service administration, business administration, or equivalent degree approved by the New York State Education Department.
  • Five years of progressively responsible clinical and/or administrative experience in a relevant program, with at least two years in an administrative capacity.
