About the position

The Director of Controls and Commissioning is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of software solutions that meet business requirements while ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture standards. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders, managing commissioning managers, and providing technical support for automated systems. The position requires a strong background in software development, commissioning, and technical risk management, with a focus on scalable and maintainable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and software designs.
  • Ensure that software designs are in compliance with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring that solutions are scalable, maintainable, and cost-effective.
  • Work closely with commissioning managers to provide the right tools and resources, ensuring projects are on schedule and ready to resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in code and design reviews to ensure solutions meet requirements and adhere to established standards.
  • Help commission complex automated systems, provide site engineering support, and complete system acceptance testing as needed.
  • Provide technical support to end-users and resolve technical issues as needed.
  • Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on solutions.
  • Utilize Human Machine Interface (HMI) using commercially available products including Wonderware, RSView, Aviva, Kepware, Factory Talk view, and Ignition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (Master's degree a plus).
  • 10+ years of experience with software development and commissioning, including PLC programming (Rockwell Software preferred).
  • Experience with HMI Programming (Factory Talk View preferred).
  • Technical expertise in sortation logic and input/output device design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Devicenet, Profinet, etc.).
  • Experience with Rockwell, Schneider, and Siemens VFDs is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 - Office Apps.
  • In-depth knowledge of software design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • Experience in developing scalable, high-performance, and secure software systems.
  • Strong knowledge of database technologies and their integration with software systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies.
  • Self-motivated, self-aware, detail-oriented, and results-focused.
  • Ability to schedule, manage, and execute basic system implementations, enhancements, and retrofits.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with a variety of software development technologies, such as Java, .NET, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with technologies related to data analytics and machine learning.
