About the position

The Director of Data Platform at A Place for Mom will play a pivotal role in overseeing the strategic management and operational execution of the company's data platform infrastructure. This position is crucial for ensuring that high-quality, actionable data is available to support data-driven decision-making across the organization. The Director will be responsible for managing data ingestion pipelines, data governance, and the semantic layer, ensuring that data systems are integrated and aligned with business objectives. Reporting directly to the VP of Data, Science, and Analytics, the Director will lead a dedicated team focused on maintaining and enhancing data systems to provide accurate and timely insights. In this role, the Director will oversee the management of ingestion pipelines to ensure efficient and reliable data flow, administer and optimize data platforms, and develop and enforce data governance policies to maintain data quality and compliance with regulations. The Director will also implement data quality frameworks and monitor data governance activities to ensure that data remains actionable and reliable. Additionally, the Director will manage event tracking and the semantic layer to facilitate consistent data interpretation across the organization. The Director will leverage Segment.io as the company's Customer Data Platform (CDP) to manage event tracking and integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring effective data collection and quality. Team leadership is a key aspect of this role, as the Director will mentor a team of data professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. Strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams will be essential to understand data needs and provide actionable insights that drive business decisions. The Director will also be responsible for performance monitoring and reporting, developing a roadmap that ties directly to business outcomes, and providing regular updates to senior management on data platform performance and challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the ingestion pipelines to ensure efficient and reliable data flow.
  • Administer and optimize data platforms to support robust data operations.
  • Ensure the integration and operation of data systems align with business objectives and deliver accurate, timely insights.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Implement and manage data quality frameworks and processes to maintain high standards for data accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitor data governance activities, manage Data SLAs, and address issues proactively to ensure data is actionable and reliable.
  • Oversee the implementation and management of event tracking to capture and analyze user interactions and behaviors effectively.
  • Develop and maintain the semantic layer to facilitate consistent and meaningful data interpretation across the organization.
  • Leverage Segment.io as the company's Customer Data Platform (CDP) to manage event tracking and integrate data from multiple sources.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in managing data platforms and ingestion pipelines, with a strong background in relevant tools.
  • Extensive experience in data governance, data quality management, and the implementation of data tracking solutions.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and leading a team of data professionals.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team towards achieving strategic objectives.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering actionable insights and solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka and Kinesis is a plus!
  • Familiarity with GA4 and similar tracking tools for capturing and analyzing user interactions and behaviors.
  • Experience with semantic layer management and data modeling.
