About the position

As the Director of Data Science, you will lead and build out the Data Science team. The team currently consists of two data scientists and one statistician but is expected to grow significantly in the next year. You will set the team's priorities and hire new team members as needed. You will be responsible for innovating and introducing new data science solutions to continuously improve our ability to leverage data. You and your team will be a service provider for many other teams at Worldcoin (in particular Economic Design, Product, Market Operations, and the CEO Office) for data-driven insights. You will report to the Chief Economist/Chief Analytics Officer. Your work will directly impact Worldcoin's strategy and its worldwide resource allocation decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Build out and lead a high-performing team of data analysts, data scientists, and statisticians
  • Foster a culture of high quality work and continuous improvement
  • Define Worldcoin's KPIs and key metrics together with other stakeholders
  • Create transparency and visibility on our most important metrics by leading the design and development of suitable dashboards and visualizations
  • Collaborate closely with the Data Engineering team to collect the right data and to ensure the quality of this data in the data warehouse
  • Lead in-depth statistical analyses (including causal inference) to derive insights that drive strategic decisions for individual departments
  • Advise other teams on the optimal design of field experiments
  • Collaborate with the Blockchain team to analyze large amounts of transactional blockchain data
  • Lead the design and implementation of robust prediction algorithms

Requirements

  • PhD in economics, econometrics, operations research, or similar
  • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in a data science role as an IC
  • 5+ years of management experience building and leading data teams
  • Extensive experience in business intelligence (in particular data visualization)
  • Extensive experience in statistics/econometrics (in particular causal inference)
  • Experience with designing and deploying experiments
  • Experience with predictive analytics
  • Good understanding of market and mechanism design
  • Programming experience in SQL, Python, or similar programming languages
  • Experience in interfacing with data engineers to deploy and maintain data science applications
  • Experience with BI tools like Metabase, Tableau, Looker, or PowerBI
  • Skilled at managing cross-functional relationships and communicating with leadership across multiple teams
