About the position

Corpay is seeking a Director of Database Administration to lead and oversee the organization's database infrastructure within the Corporate Overhead division. This role involves managing a team of database administrators, ensuring the security, scalability, and performance of various database systems, and implementing best practices for database management across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will possess strategic leadership skills, technical expertise, and a strong background in database architecture and administration, particularly with databases such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing a team of database administrators, providing coaching, mentorship, and career development.
  • Setting team goals, tracking performance, and optimizing workflows for effective database operations.
  • Fostering a collaborative work environment and encouraging knowledge sharing.
  • Defining and executing a long-term database strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Overseeing the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance database systems.
  • Collaborating with architecture, development, and IT teams for seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Ensuring proactive monitoring, tuning, and optimization of databases to maintain high performance.
  • Identifying performance bottlenecks and resolving them through troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Implementing database automation solutions for backups, patching, monitoring, and scaling.
  • Overseeing the development and enforcement of database security policies and compliance with industry standards.
  • Leading database security audits and implementing best practices for data protection.
  • Collaborating with the security team to address emerging threats and mitigate risks.
  • Leading the design and implementation of disaster recovery and high availability strategies for critical database systems.
  • Managing database-related projects, ensuring timely completion within budget and quality standards.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for all database-related matters and providing technical expertise to senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in database administration, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong experience with multiple database platforms (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • In-depth knowledge of database architecture, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and automation tools is a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with attention to detail.
  • In-depth technical expertise in database systems, including security, backup, recovery, and performance management.
  • Solid understanding of database lifecycle management, automation, and orchestration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and automation tools is a plus.
