The Department & Clinical Director of Anesthesiology at the University of Missouri is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring that the department aligns with the School of Medicine's mission and vision, which encompasses teaching, research, and patient care. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of academic medicine and research, alongside a broad knowledge of clinical practice management and financial management. The Director will work closely with the Department Chair to implement the strategic vision and clinical operations of the department, fostering a culture rooted in integrity, honesty, and hard work. In this role, the Director will develop and direct a long-range strategic business plan to ensure the continued success of a clinical operation exceeding $45 million. Key responsibilities include conducting business analyses, preparing for program expansions, and overseeing the implementation of new programs. The Director will also be involved in faculty and staff recruitment, compensation development, and budget management, ensuring that the department operates efficiently and effectively. Financial management is a critical aspect of this position, requiring the Director to develop and monitor the department's budget while collaborating with the School of Medicine and the department to manage financial and personnel resources. The Director will establish financial management policies to ensure compliance with university policies and will coordinate regular financial reporting to various stakeholders, including the Department Chair and Hospital Administration. Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing all department staff and faculty, ensuring compliance with university policies, and partnering with Human Resources for effective workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, and performance management. The Director will also be responsible for clinical oversight, ensuring that all clinical services are captured and billed promptly, analyzing billing trends, and improving revenue cycle processes in collaboration with University Physicians. This position operates Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and requires a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of experience in a healthcare environment. A Master's degree is preferred, and experience in an academic healthcare environment is highly desirable.
