About the position

The Director of the Department of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Fairfax County, VA, is a senior leadership role responsible for directing the county's technology program. The CIO shapes the strategic direction for technology services and digital transformation, overseeing a workforce of over 350 staff and managing substantial budgets for technology initiatives. This position requires a collaborative and transformational leader with a strong strategic mindset to enhance IT operations and align them with county goals.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the administration, planning, budgeting, operations, and activities of the Department of Information Technology (DIT).
  • Shape the strategic direction for technology services and digital transformation.
  • Oversee the development and support of ERP, WEB, CRM, and GIS platforms.
  • Manage IT architecture enabling online digital services to the public.
  • Supervise the county IT/Cyber Security office and ensure the security of IT assets.
  • Foster a public service environment that leverages the creativity and technical expertise of staff.
  • Build a high-performing, customer-focused IT environment that aligns with county goals.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, or a related field.
  • Ten years of increasingly responsible managerial experience in applying information technology in a government or business organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of information systems analysis, design, construction, integration, operation, security, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of process innovation and re-engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management, contract management, and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to foster and maintain successful customer relationships and provide quality service.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical data and draw sound conclusions.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and direct complex technical operations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, County officials, and the public.
