About the position

The Director of Development and Communications at TeamChild is a strategic leader responsible for advancing justice for youth through innovative fundraising and communication strategies. This role involves overseeing revenue generation efforts, managing a development team, and enhancing external communications to support the organization's mission of providing legal aid to youth involved in the juvenile legal system. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director to grow the organization's revenue base significantly over the next five years, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and community-centric values.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic oversight of the annual fund, including three annual campaigns and identifying strategies for improvement.
  • Visioning and strategizing for development and storytelling for annual appeals and campaigns.
  • Overseeing Salesforce database operations and donor acknowledgment, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Maintenance and growth of $1.2 million in private foundation grants in collaboration with the Executive Director and Executive Team.
  • Evaluating new prospects and developing strategies for private funding opportunities through grant writing and proposal development.
  • Overseeing stewardship of foundation and private funding relationships and preparing staff for funder meetings.
  • Cultivating a culture of philanthropy consistent with TeamChild values.
  • Overseeing the execution of an annual Seattle spring fundraiser, raising approximately $70,000.
  • Leading corporate sponsorship cultivation and retention efforts, identifying new corporate partnership prospects.
  • Identifying key messaging and marketing strategies for TeamChild and executing plans across various platforms.
  • Developing values-aligned storytelling practices that highlight youth leadership and systemic failures.
  • Writing and developing creative content in partnership with the Development & Communications Manager.
  • Ensuring TeamChild's brand and reputation are well-stewarded across stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in revenue development and fundraising, particularly in a nonprofit context.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on storytelling and messaging.
  • Experience with grant writing and maintaining relationships with funders.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic fundraising plans.
  • Commitment to anti-racism and community-centric fundraising practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Salesforce or similar donor management systems.
  • Familiarity with social media and digital marketing strategies.
  • Background in legal aid or social justice organizations.
