About the position

The Director of Development and Communications at Women of the World is responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to enhance philanthropic support for the organization. This role involves managing relationships with community stakeholders, overseeing marketing and communications efforts, and leading a team to achieve fundraising goals. The position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and excellent communication skills to foster donor relationships and promote the organization's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day operations of the Development Department.
  • Lead the strategic implementation of annual fundraising programs, including management of staff, special events, and donor programs.
  • Develop the strategy and operational capacity of the Development Department.
  • Create and implement an annual strategic fundraising plan that supports the organization's vision.
  • Provide leadership for planning, creating, and executing all fundraising activities including campaigns, grants, and special events.
  • Identify key annual and major donor prospects and develop plans for cultivation and donor acquisition.
  • Provide fundraising leadership to the Board of Directors and manage board giving.
  • Oversee foundation strategy and implementation, including grant writing.
  • Nurture and steward relationships with existing donors.
  • Oversee a yearly program of special fundraising events and strategies to increase support.
  • Recruit and manage fundraising committees and volunteers.
  • Manage and develop the grant-writing function.
  • Oversee and manage all public relations, marketing, and promotional efforts.
  • Develop a comprehensive marketing, PR, and communications plan.
  • Maintain and manage relationships with external consultants and partners.
  • Provide oversight of the development and communications assistant.
  • Produce communications collateral to support donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Coordinate media events and represent the organization in media appearances.
  • Oversee and effectively use systems and technology, including fundraising software.
  • Oversee the fundraising budget and set annual goals.
  • Directly supervise members of the development and communications team.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of staff performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' nonprofit development experience
  • Knowledge of and relationships with Utah funders
  • Excellent personal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Initiative and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel required
