About the position

The Director of Development and Major Gifts at Scripps College is responsible for leading a team of Regional Development Officers and managing all aspects of major gifts, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This role focuses on building strategic relationships with alumnae, current and past parents, and other key constituencies to secure private gifts that support the college's strategic plan. The director will also develop and implement engagement strategies to enhance donor relationships and ensure successful fundraising outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Regional Development Officers in major gift fundraising.
• Independently perform identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects.
• Successfully solicit major gifts through written proposals and maintain an active schedule of donor contacts.
• Conduct a minimum of 120 personal visits during the academic year with donors and manage a portfolio of 75-100 active donors and prospects.
• Develop and engage volunteers, donors, and colleagues in long-term relationships.
• Provide strategic direction for assigned fundraising priorities and develop engagement plans for specific prospects.
• Analyze fundraising strategies and assist with budget planning and development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in non-profit fundraising or higher education development.
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
• Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and database utilization.

• Knowledge of industry best practices in higher education or non-profits.
• Experience with CRM databases and graphic design software.
• Knowledge of social media strategy and trends.
