About the position

The Director of Development Communications & Donor Relations at San Francisco State University is responsible for leading communications that support fundraising and campaign goals. This role involves supervising staff, managing development-oriented promotional materials, and ensuring effective donor relations strategies. The Director collaborates with various stakeholders to produce high-quality communications and marketing collateral, while also implementing stewardship initiatives to engage donors effectively.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the preparation of campaign and development-oriented materials such as newsletters, brochures, and video scripts.
• Manage proposal templates and boilerplate copy for fundraising campaigns.
• Design and implement a stewardship plan for donor segments.
• Analyze the efficacy of donor relations and stewardship staff production.
• Research, write, and edit content for Development and campaign web pages.
• Coordinate with Development staff to review artistic design of promotional materials.
• Collaborate with fundraisers to prepare solicitation proposals.

Requirements

• Six to seven years of experience in communications, preferably in donor or customer communications.
• Extensive knowledge of communications, promotional, and marketing principles.
• Outstanding writing skills, including experience developing proposals and reports.
• Project management experience with the ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Ability to develop and monitor production schedules and budgets.
• Knowledge of design, photography, and digital media strategies.
