About the position

The Director of Development and Communications oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising by identifying, soliciting, and securing funding from public and private sectors that match the goals and objectives of SCFHC programs. This role involves gathering information from various departments and coordinating/writing grant proposals for government, corporate, and foundation funds. The Director will follow up with grantors to determine/monitor grant status and propose and/or coordinate grant reports while interfacing with funders to respond to information requests. The position requires collaboration with the Board of Directors Development Committee and the CEO to develop an annual fundraising plan, manage a portfolio of major gift donors, and ensure high data integrity standards in donor management. Additionally, the Director will design and implement comprehensive communication strategies to elevate the health center's profile and develop policies related to outreach and marketing strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an annual fundraising plan including the number of grants to be solicited per year, fundraising goals, prospects, and timelines.
  • Manage the fundraising strategy for major gift donors/prospects with primary responsibility for cultivation and stewardship.
  • Develop and manage a cohesive annual communications plan and media-relations strategy.
  • Oversee government and foundation grant management by writing proposal narratives and submitting applications.
  • Maintain current funder relationships and broaden SCFHC's base of foundation funders.
  • Ensure high data integrity standards and timely gift acknowledgments.
  • Establish and maintain internal and external relationships to ensure patient population growth.
  • Design and implement comprehensive external and internal communication strategies.
  • Develop policies and procedures related to outreach and marketing strategies.
  • Write letters of inquiry/intent and prepare grant applications.
  • Gather data and statistics from various departments for grant applications and reports.
  • Partner with staff leadership to communicate program goals to funders.

Requirements

  • BA degree in Writing, English, Journalism, Business Administration preferred, or equivalent education plus knowledge of community health programming.
  • Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 3-5 years grant writing experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience working on HRSA grants and EHB portal is a plus.
  • Proficient in fundraising software.
  • Strong ties in the Los Angeles development community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification with AGWA (American Grant Writer's Association) is optional but a plus.
  • Experience in developing relationships with key stakeholders.
