About the position

The Director of Development & Communications at the Support Center for Child Advocates is a strategic leadership role focused on enhancing the organization's fundraising and communication efforts. This position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive strategies to grow the agency's support base, manage relationships with donors, and elevate the organization's profile. The Director will lead a team of development staff, collaborate with the Executive Director and Board, and ensure effective communication of the agency's mission and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve the agency's annual revenue goals in partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Create and execute a comprehensive development plan including Annual Fund, Major Gifts Program, and Special Events.
  • Supervise and support development staff to meet and exceed development goals.
  • Research and identify funding and sponsor prospects, implementing strategies to foster positive donor relationships.
  • Oversee grant proposals and management, ensuring compliance and timely acknowledgments of gifts and grants.
  • Manage and control the department budget and related expenses.
  • Develop and oversee the development calendar for internal and external deadlines.
  • Support the Executive Director in fundraising efforts, including meetings and events.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies that promote the agency's mission and enhance brand visibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8+ years of professional work experience in Development in a leadership role
  • 3 to 5 years of experience managing/supervising a development team
  • Proven track record in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, particularly major gifts
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and fundraising database programs (Raisers Edge NXT, Donor Perfect)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with advocacy work and legal representation
  • Experience working with a sophisticated donor base, particularly in the Philadelphia philanthropic community
  • Knowledge of federal or government funding and grants
  • Experience overseeing federal grants
