About the position

The Director of Development, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University is responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating all private sector fundraising efforts to support the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This role involves overseeing a team and ensuring successful annual and campaign fundraising results, contributing to the department's mission of research, teaching, and patient care. The Director will work closely with institutional leaders and faculty to engage alumni, donors, and prospects, and will play a key role in the upcoming comprehensive fundraising campaign set to launch in fall 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and FJHM leadership to establish strategies and priorities for development activity.
  • Lead planning for and implementation of the next comprehensive fundraising campaign for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the research, teaching, and patient care components and priorities of the Department.
  • Create strategy for and articulate fundraising priorities, goals, and objectives.
  • Provide oversight of volunteer Advisory Board and plan engagement activities.
  • Participate in administrative and faculty meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  • Coordinate access and utilization of central FJHM and DAR resources.
  • Plan, implement, and manage a principal and major gift fundraising program.
  • Maintain an active portfolio of approximately 75 prospects for major and principal gift cultivation.
  • Strategically plan and execute cultivation, recognition, and stewardship events.
  • Prepare solicitation strategies, proposals, and cultivation materials.
  • Provide education and training to faculty and volunteers about major gift fundraising dynamics.
  • Oversee strategy for stewardship efforts for the Department.
  • Manage the development team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 7 years progressively responsible experience in major and principal gifts development, preferably in medicine.
