About the position

The Director of Environmental Compliance at JERA Americas is responsible for providing corporate support to various thermal and renewable power generation facilities across the United States. This role involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, particularly focusing on air and multi-media programs relevant to power generation facilities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. The position requires strong leadership in developing and implementing environmental policies and procedures, as well as engaging with stakeholders to assess regulatory impacts and support environmental consulting projects.

Responsibilities

  • Guide operations teams in complying with environmental regulations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain communication with decision-makers regarding regulatory impacts.
  • Provide environmental consulting support across various industrial sectors.
  • Interface with regulators and manage permitting processes.
  • Review and assist in the preparation of compliance reports.
  • Support corporate environmental, social, and governance programs.
  • Conduct periodic plant audits for regulatory compliance.
  • Assess regulatory consequences of operational changes.
  • Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing plant budgets related to regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement improvement plans for environmental excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in environmental compliance within thermal power industries.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, especially in ME, MA, NY, NJ, PA.
  • Strong background in air and multi-media programs for power generation facilities.
  • Experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Data Acquisition and Handling Systems (DAHS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • CHMM or engineering professional certification (EIT or PE).
  • Experience in a power plant setting.
  • Training in Environmental Compliance or management.
  • Experience with web-based document management software like SharePoint.
