About the position

The Director of Environmental Services (DES) is responsible for overseeing and managing building maintenance, grounds, and equipment, as well as the procurement and distribution of utilities. This role involves coordinating construction and renovation programs and ensuring compliance with various regulations. The DES works under the direction of the Administrator and is expected to apply knowledge of engineering and construction principles to enhance the facility's operations and services.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and control functions and activities of plant operations, maintenance, and building renovations.
  • Review and evaluate existing programs, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement new or modified programs, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Meet with various stakeholders to plan and coordinate programs and services.
  • Monitor work quality to ensure timely completion and adherence to standards.
  • Manage departmental budgets, including utilities and energy savings programs.
  • Prepare and maintain departmental records and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with health, fire, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain a sanitary and orderly environment.
  • Conduct regular management meetings and coordinate with other departments.
  • Oversee construction and development of physical facilities, including evaluating plans and bids.
  • Manage the daily operations of an industrial laundry facility and ensure regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred.
  • 2 years of experience at a director level or 5 years in engineering, maintenance, and construction in a healthcare institution.
  • Thorough knowledge of healthcare building mechanical, structural, and electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA, TJC, AHCA, CMS, DNV, EPA, and OSHA codes and regulations.
  • Proficient in Windows-based office software, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats.
