About the position

Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. The Law School is searching for a Director of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator to join our team. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Director of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator will investigate complaints of discrimination and harassment, advise on compliance relating to non-discrimination law and institutional policy, administer student and employee accommodations, and provide training to students, faculty and staff on issues of diversity, equal opportunity, and non-discrimination. The Director of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator will serve as the Law School's Title IX Coordinator and Section 504/ADA Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the Law School's compliance with applicable equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws, including the administration of required employee and student training
  • Conducting internal investigations pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Age Discrimination and Employment Act; the New York Human Rights Law; the New York City Human Rights Law; harassment and retaliation claims; and claims arising under Law School policy.
  • Serving as the Law School's Title IX Coordinator and Section 504/ADA Coordinator
  • Administering disability, pregnancy, and religious accommodations for students and employees
  • Directing climate surveys and other forms of assessment to promote continuous improvement of campus climate
  • Cooperating with Public Safety with respect to concurrent investigations and reporting requirements

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree and eight years' experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of applicable civil rights laws, regulations, and administrative guidance
  • Excellent judgement, analytical and oral/written communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills, including an ability to solve difficult problems and balance competing interests
  • Effective conflict resolution skills and an ability to maintain neutrality
  • Emotional intelligence and an ability to listen carefully and react with sensitivity and compassion
  • Ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information

Nice-to-haves

  • A Juris Doctor, Master's Degree, or other advanced degree in a related field
  • Experience conducting civil rights investigations
  • Experience administering reasonable accommodations
