About the position

The Director of Events & Marketing for the Honors College and the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) at the University of North Texas is responsible for organizing, planning, and executing a variety of departmental and college events. This role requires collaboration with staff members from relevant areas to ensure that events are well-coordinated and meet the needs of the students and faculty involved. The Director will also oversee the communication and marketing efforts that represent both the Honors College and TAMS, ensuring that all materials are accurate, engaging, and aligned with the institution's branding standards. In this position, the Director will plan and execute events such as departmental receptions, University Scholars Day, and the Phi Kappa Phi New Member Initiation. They will serve as a branding resource for the Honors College and TAMS, providing guidance on new branding standards and advising staff as needed. Additionally, the Director will enhance the visibility of TAMS and the Honors College within the UNT community and the broader public by representing the College at local events and collaborating with the University Relations and Communications Management (URCM) team. The Director will also play a key role in retention efforts for the Honors College, researching and suggesting innovative strategies to engage and retain students. They will act as a liaison for the Golden Key Honor Society, ensuring that the College's standards are upheld while supporting this student-run organization. The position requires a commitment to fulfilling all responsibilities associated with the role, even those not explicitly listed, and working as part of a team to achieve the unit's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan departmental and student events and receptions for the Honors College and TAMS in conjunction with staff members from relevant areas.
  • Coordinate event aspects of University Scholars Day, ensuring the event is well organized and runs smoothly.
  • Coordinate Phi Kappa Phi New Member Initiation and serve as the PKP liaison for the University.
  • Serve as a branding resource person for the Honors College and TAMS, advising on new branding standards.
  • Enhance and enlarge the image of TAMS and the Honors College within UNT and the broader community.
  • Represent the College at local community events and clubs.
  • Serve as liaison for the College with URCM, coordinating efforts to recommend students as representatives of the Honors College.
  • Serve as PR representative for invitations to donors/guests for university-wide events, contacting them as needed.
  • Participate in committee on retention efforts, researching and suggesting trending strategies to retain members in the Honors College.
  • Act as staff representative for Golden Key Honor Society, meeting the requirements for this role.
  • Carry out all tasks appropriate to the position in the Honors College and TAMS, fulfilling team responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Three years of professional related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of University operations, policies, and procedures, as well as state regulatory guidelines and mandates.
  • Some knowledge and skill related to computer software, applications, and programming, including Adobe Creative Suite, Qualtrics, TracDat, Microsoft Office, EventsPro, Drupal, and Basic Coding.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management and ability to develop and manage event-related budgets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
  • Ability to work on call during events, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, people-oriented environment.
