About the position

The Director of Facilities Operations at Siena College is responsible for the comprehensive management and supervision of the college's maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance programs for all facility equipment and components. This includes overseeing mechanical, electrical, and structural systems, as well as vehicles and other equipment associated with the physical plant of the college. The Director will coordinate the establishment of shop work and project priorities based on schedules, emergency repair requests, and requested completion dates, ensuring that all facilities and utility systems on campus maintain continuous operations. In this role, the Director will provide supervision for multi-shop projects and act as a project manager for both in-house and contracted projects. This includes supervising all shop supervisors and personnel assigned to the Operations area, coordinating daily operations and project work with Custodial and Grounds crews. The Director will also perform in-house project designs, including concepts, design development, and construction documents for select mechanical and electrical projects. Additionally, the Director will oversee and manage the campus-wide energy management program and supervise the use of building management systems. The Director will manage all operations and services that support the campus fire safety program, including annual inspections, and will handle service contracts for all facilities operations and select services. Collaboration with the AVP and College Architect is essential to coordinate campus projects with local authorities and utility companies. The Director will provide technical assistance and document reviews on all capital projects, oversee campus inspection programs, and provide technical support to various stakeholders, including insurance carriers and in-house staff. Participation in campus sustainability initiatives and responding to campus emergencies as needed are also key responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous operations of all facilities and utility systems on campus.
  • Provide supervision for multi-shop projects and act as a project manager for assigned in-house and contracted projects.
  • Supervise all shop supervisors and personnel assigned to the Operations area.
  • Coordinate daily operations and project work with Custodial and Grounds crews.
  • Perform in-house project designs including concepts, design development, and construction documents for mechanical and electrical projects.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Licensing as a Professional Engineer preferred.
  • Five years of related experience that included supervision of operational and services personnel and management of facilities programs.
  • Possess a valid NYS driver's license and maintain insurability throughout employment.
