About the position

The Director of Field Operations is responsible for the daily maintenance and management of the playing surface at Riverwalk Stadium, ensuring it meets the standards set by the MiLB. This role involves supervising part-time grounds staff and overseeing all aspects of field management, including upkeep, safety, and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all aspects of field management to meet MiLB regulations and PDL specifications.
  • Lead the crew in day-to-day management of field upkeep such as infield skin/baselines, warning track, grassed areas, game mound/plate, and bullpen mounds.
  • Ensure safe and proper operation of equipment, keeping it clean and maintained for each use.
  • Manage pre and post-game routines, special events, and any other events hosted at Riverwalk Stadium.
  • Coordinate with umpires/staff to execute tarp pulls in a timely manner.
  • Create and manage monthly fertility schedules including herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide applications.
  • Formulate a budget for the year and keep inventory on material usage throughout the year.
  • Hire and train part-time grounds staff to execute daily/game tasks and teach departmental standards/OSHA regulations.
  • Work with vendors to achieve on-field promotions or needs related to the field.
  • Develop strong relationships with managers, umpires, coaches, etc.
  • Operate walk-behind aerator, tractor, and reel mower.

Requirements

  • 2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass Management.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in baseball (collegiate or professional).
  • Knowledge of chemicals and application timing to achieve desired results.
  • Oral and written communication skills efficiently and professionally.
  • Knowledge of IPM (Integrated Pest Management).
  • Manage staff hours and complete payroll duties.
  • Ability to multitask in an active work environment while still providing effective leadership to the groundskeeping staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new techniques, skills, and practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Willing and able to work varied and long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience maintaining Bermudagrass (specifically Tifway 419) preferred.

  • Experience with field promotions or event management.
