About the position

The Director of Finance and Administration at The Food Literacy Project will provide strategic financial oversight and contribute to the organization's broader strategy during a period of growth. This role involves managing a $2 million budget and supporting a team of 23, including youth employees, to enhance community impact. The position is set within an inclusive and collaborative work culture, emphasizing mutual respect and commitment to the organization's values.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization's financial and administrative functions, including accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of all financial transactions.
  • Create and share financial reports and analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the annual budget development process.
  • Oversee grant expense management and reporting.
  • Manage payroll processing, including timesheet management and data entry.
  • Handle bill payments and accounting of organizational assets.
  • Conduct financial analysis, including forecasts for projects and ongoing operations.
  • Ensure compliance of HR policies with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Assist in developing hiring and onboarding processes.
  • Conduct compensation analysis to ensure competitive pay structures.
  • Complete background checks for staff and volunteers.
  • Support staff development and address performance issues as they arise.
  • Research and identify benefits program options and enroll staff accordingly.
  • Provide oversight of insurance policies, including commercial liability and workers compensation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • 5 years of nonprofit experience or professional accounting and finance experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Commitment to the Food Literacy Project's mission and vision.
  • Experience with applicable software such as Microsoft Teams, Office, Excel, Outlook, and QuickBooks.
  • Self-directed and organized with excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable with a solution-oriented approach.
  • Experience working in and with south and west Louisville communities is preferred.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to physically participate in farm and garden work projects and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
