About the position

The Director of Finance and Accounting plays a strategic role within the Director Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). This position is responsible for overseeing the District Finance and Accounting Department, ensuring effective management of staff resources, operations, and compliance with legal and regulatory standards. The Director is tasked with enhancing client services, developing departmental policies, and collaborating with other directors to align with the company's vision and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and establish adherence to department policies and procedures related to client services and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director in all areas of Department Management to ensure alignment with leadership.
  • Manage staff performance, including communication of performance issues and training.
  • Anticipate operating challenges and provide proactive solutions.
  • Research and recommend enhancements to systems and tools for client services.
  • Provide annual department budget and oversee its management throughout the year.
  • Supervise department personnel and ensure adherence to company culture and values.
  • Evaluate and manage overall client expectations and satisfaction with department services.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with other department directors to coordinate company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in developing new business and marketing efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in financial management or closely related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry practices and terminology.
  • Ability to operate computers using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong reasoning, judgment, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant with current license preferred.
  • Experience in the operation of special districts, non-profit accounting, or governmental accounting.
