About the position

The Director of Finance and Accounting at San Diego State University will provide strategic financial leadership and oversight for The Campanile Foundation (TCF). This role is crucial for ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and effective management of resources in a high-impact educational environment. The director will collaborate with various stakeholders to support financial operations and fundraising initiatives, while also managing audits and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership and long-term planning.
• Oversee financial and accounting operations, including budgets and investment income.
• Ensure accuracy of financial reporting and integrity of accounting systems.
• Manage audits, prepare financial statements, and handle tax returns, including IRS Form 990.
• Work closely with University Relations and Development management to support financial operations.
• Engage with SDSU leadership and stakeholders to support fundraising and financial initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in higher education or non-profit accounting or finance operations.
• 2 years of professional financial reporting experience; forecasting; charitable trust accounting.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
• Experience with internal and financial audits and 990 tax return preparation.
• Ability to conduct complex financial analysis using large data sets.
• Proficiency with financial reporting and visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
• Experience in managing investment portfolios and understanding endowment management.
