About the position

Amethod Public Schools (AMPS) is a mission and values-driven organization dedicated to providing a rigorous college preparatory education and character development program for students from underserved communities. The Director of Finance and Administration plays a critical role in ensuring the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. This position requires a strategic and results-oriented financial leader who can manage and optimize financial resources while ensuring compliance with all financial regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of financial acumen, leadership, and strategic thinking, working closely with school leaders and members of the Home Office team to drive organizational success. In this role, the Director will be responsible for developing and overseeing annual budgets in collaboration with C-suite executives and school leaders. They will provide financial training to school leaders and home office staff, ensuring that all parties understand and adhere to budgets. The Director will manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and cash management, ensuring timely and accurate payments and transactions. Additionally, they will produce accurate and timely financial reports for stakeholders, analyze financial data, and present findings to senior leadership to inform strategic decision-making. The Director will also build and lead a high-performing finance team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented culture. They will support the payroll process, review and approve payroll runs, and serve as additional support to operational departments as needed. Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee annual budgets in collaboration with C-suite executives, school leaders, and the back office.
  • Provide financial training to school leaders and home office staff.
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations including accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and cash management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payments, transactions, and monthly close processes with the finance team and the back office.
  • Review credit card reconciliation reports and maintain vendor and accounting files.
  • Serve as a thought partner with home office leadership teams and school site leaders on financial and operational strategies and priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with all authorizer, state, and federal financial reporting requirements.
  • Produce accurate and timely financial reports for stakeholders, including analysis and recommendations.
  • Coordinate and collect audit information and work with auditors during field work.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports to school sites and home office leadership.
  • Develop and maintain record retention policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team.
  • Support payroll process and team, reviewing and approving all payroll runs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in the education sector.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and translate complex information into actionable insights.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of public education and charter school movement, preferred.
  • Previous experience in charter schools, preferred.
