About the position

The Director of Finance and Administration at Texas Tech University is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, and supervising the operations of a specialized unit within the School of Law. This role involves developing and implementing policies and procedures, managing the budget, and serving as a liaison with university personnel and the community. The position requires independent judgment and initiative, working under general supervision to ensure the smooth operation of financial and administrative functions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff in the business office.
  • Counsels faculty, staff, and students on procurement and travel procedures.
  • Prepares internal financial reports for the school's departments and centers.
  • Coordinates with the Texas Tech Law School Foundation.
  • Prepares the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Dean's office.
  • Provides analyses and reports for budget hearings and requests.
  • Develops procedures for finance and administrative functions including ePafs, EOP's, Travel, Purchase Orders, and more.
  • Provides financial analyses and reports to support fiscal operations.
  • Prepares ad hoc financial reports as necessary.
  • Assists Student Bar Association and student organizations with purchases and reimbursements.
  • Monitors fund balances, revenues, and expenses for the school.
  • Monitors the payroll process and resolves errors.
  • Provides financial and business leadership for the school.
  • Assists with fiscal and budgetary decision making.
  • Prepares financing reports required by the American Bar Association and other stakeholders.
  • Provides periodic reports of the school's financial standing to the Dean and faculty.
  • Assists with scholarship funding decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area required.
  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Banner Sunguard System and Cognos Reporting Tool.
  • Knowledge of various fund types and restrictions in higher education.
  • Knowledge of Texas Tech University Operating Policies and Procedures.
  • MBA in Accounting or Finance, CPA.
