About the position

The Director of Finance and Fundraising will oversee the financial operations and fundraising initiatives of the organization, ensuring robust financial management, compliance, and sustainability. This role will also lead event planning efforts for both employee-focused and fundraising events, including banquets and community outreach initiatives. The Director of Finance and Fundraising will partner closely with the leadership team, board members, and external stakeholders to achieve financial goals and advance the organization's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization's goals for both nonprofit and corporate operations.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and long-term planning processes for nonprofit initiatives and company-wide projects.
  • Ensure accurate accounting practices for donor-restricted funds, grants, corporate finances, and employee programs.
  • Manage cash flow, investments, and reserve funds to optimize financial performance.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards for nonprofits and corporations.
  • Lead the annual audit process and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Create and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors, sponsors, and grant-making organizations.
  • Prepare grant applications, donor proposals, and fundraising reports.
  • Lead the fundraising team and collaborate with external consultants to maximize development opportunities.
  • Ensure that all fundraising activities comply with ethical standards and donor requirements, including transparent financial reporting.
  • Plan and execute events, including fundraising banquets, employee engagement activities, and community outreach programs.
  • Coordinate event logistics, such as venue selection, catering, and program development, ensuring events meet financial and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications teams to promote events and increase community participation.
  • Establish event budgets and manage expenses to ensure cost-effective execution.
  • Develop metrics to evaluate event success and donor engagement, providing regular updates to leadership.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to overall strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Provide financial insights to guide the organization's strategic initiatives and growth plans.
  • Lead the finance and fundraising teams, ensuring the professional development of staff.
  • Work closely with the board of directors, presenting financial updates and participating in finance and audit committees.
  • Identify and mitigate potential financial risks, including operational, fundraising, and event-related risks.
  • Oversee insurance management and develop risk mitigation strategies for organizational activities.
  • Maintain compliance with all financial regulations and best practices for nonprofit and corporate governance.
  • Participate in the company's efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Contribute to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • CPA or other relevant professional certification strongly preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within a nonprofit and corporate environment.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and donor relations, including planning and executing large-scale events.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit financial management practices, including fund accounting and donor compliance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IRS requirements for nonprofits, and corporate financial regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and collaborate across departments.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and event planning tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud, Eventbrite, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies that enhance organizational financial performance.
  • Skilled at building and maintaining relationships with donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Experience planning and coordinating events that align with the organization's financial and engagement goals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret financial data effectively.
  • Capable of leading teams and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
