About the position

The Director of Finance and Operations at 5280 High School is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and records of the school. This part-time position involves advising the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial, operational, and budget matters while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws. The role includes managing a half-time accountant and a small transportation team, and it is designed to foster a collaborative and supportive environment for staff and students.

Responsibilities

  • Grant management
  • Budgeting for grants
  • Monthly grant requests for funds (RFFs)
  • Assisting with the financial components of grant reports
  • Grants receivable budgeting
  • Create initial budget for each fiscal year
  • Revised existing budget mid-year
  • Reporting budget loads
  • Budget-to-actuals reporting
  • Meeting with staff regularly about available balances
  • Cash flow and projections
  • DPS Quarterly Financial Reports
  • DPS Data Pipeline Report
  • Payroll management
  • Keep payroll software up-to-date with employee personal and benefit information
  • Payroll reporting: PERA, PCOPS, 401K
  • Accounting and bookkeeping for payroll journals
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in school business administration, finance, accounting, or related field
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software, business principles, and financial analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of CDE Chart of Accounts account codes
  • Advanced knowledge of GASB and GAAP principles
  • Advanced knowledge of budget preparation and control
  • Advanced knowledge and super-user of Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills
  • Critical and strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; an analytical mind with good organizational skills
  • Ability to promote and follow Governance Board policies, school policies, district policies and building and department procedures
  • Ability to stay current with district and school policies standards and training in the areas of data quality, data privacy, and cybersecurity with respect to student and staff data, and related information systems
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
