About the position

The Director of Finance and Operations at Beacon Charter Schools is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing various operational aspects of the school, allowing the Superintendent and Principals to focus on educational growth and student achievement. This position involves managing the school budget, ensuring compliance with financial policies, and supervising a team of operations professionals. The Director plays a crucial role in maintaining efficient school operations, from financial management to facility maintenance and vendor negotiations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the school's budget in collaboration with the Superintendent and leadership team.
  • Prepare regular financial reports for management, the Board of Directors, and RIDE.
  • Analyze budget variances and participate in regular budget review meetings.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual financial audit process, ensuring adherence to fiscal policies.
  • Manage the school purchasing process, including vendor orders and inventory tracking.
  • Prepare the campus for each new school year by ordering necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Process new hires and maintain employee records, ensuring compliance with employment laws.
  • Oversee maintenance and custodial personnel, ensuring campus facilities are well-maintained.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to acquire cost-effective deals and reduce procurement costs.
  • Supervise the business office staff, maintenance staff, and Director of Admissions and School Nutrition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of operations management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams to implement systems and processes.
  • Certification as a School Business Manager in Rhode Island or eligibility for certification.
  • Strong background in accounting and financial oversight.
