About the position

The Director of Finance in Construction is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a construction company. This position requires expertise in accounting practices, particularly in compliance with GAAP, and a strong background in the construction industry. The role involves managing accounting teams, ensuring compliance with multi-state regulations, and providing financial reporting and analysis to support business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting operations, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll teams.
  • Lead corporate accounting in compliance with GAAP, preparing income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, work-in-process schedules, and account reconciliations.
  • Manage audits, including 401(k), and coordinate tax filings with CPA.
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state contractor licensing and annual reporting.
  • Calculate monthly commissions and generate monthly financial summaries and dashboards.
  • Support team cross-training and maintain up-to-date process documentation.
  • Handle multi-state sales, use, and privilege tax filings, as well as personal property tax returns.

Requirements

  • CPA certification
  • Experience in financial report writing
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Senior level experience in finance
  • Proficiency in account reconciliation
  • Expertise in Sage/Timberline software
