About the position

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is seeking a Director of Finance Operations to oversee the financial management of St Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA, and Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. This role is pivotal in providing strategic and operational leadership in the development and implementation of financial management, forecasting, budgeting, accounting, supply chain, and revenue cycle operations. The Director will work closely with the Regional VP of Financial Operations and will be a key member of the Hospital's Senior Management Team, contributing to operational committees by conducting research and making recommendations for process improvements and efficiencies. The Director will lead the annual budget process for the hospitals, ensuring that operational forecasts and budgets align with the organization's strategic objectives. This position requires the establishment and maintenance of sound financial information and serves as a liaison between the financial reporting team and operations. The Director will also provide education and training to management on the budget process, assist department directors with methodologies and benchmarks, and coordinate with the Regional Director of Forecasting/Budgeting to prepare and submit quarterly and annual budget files. In addition, the Director will act as a financial resource to operational and senior management, reviewing all department requests for capital expenses, FTEs, supplies, and other operating expenses. The role involves analyzing and providing variance explanations for revenue and expenses, preparing action plans with department directors to address budget discrepancies, and presenting financial results in management meetings. The Director will maintain a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations to ensure adherence to ethical and professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial management, forecasting, budgeting, accounting, supply chain, and revenue cycle operations for St Mary Medical Center and Nazareth Hospital.
  • Lead the annual budget process, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Provide education and training to management on the budget process.
  • Act as a financial resource for operational and senior management, reviewing department requests for capital expenses and operating expenses.
  • Analyze and provide variance explanations for revenue and expenses, preparing action plans as needed.
  • Participate in management meetings and present financial results as requested.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Decision Support to produce relevant service line analysis for operations team review.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable laws and regulations to ensure adherence to ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Certification as a CPA, CMA, or HFMA Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare finance.
  • Previous managerial experience preferred.
  • Experience in researching and analyzing complex financial/operational issues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with management and governance at all levels, including C-suite executives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix organizational structure and influence others.
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills.
  • High level of interpersonal, management, and organizational skills with a focus on customer service orientation.
