About the position

The Director of Finance is a pivotal leadership role within Sims Municipal Recycling, responsible for delivering critical financial insights that inform strategic decision-making. This position oversees the financial planning and reporting functions, conducts comprehensive business analyses, and optimizes resource allocation to support the company's growth objectives. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with robust analytical capabilities, effective communication skills, and a collaborative approach to working across various departments in a dynamic, high-growth environment. In this role, the Director of Finance will lead the finance and treasury departments, acting as the primary contact for banking and financing relationships. This includes forecasting and monitoring debt covenants to ensure compliance, managing cash and liquidity to meet operational needs, and maintaining a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast to ensure effective liquidity management. The Director will also develop, manage, and implement comprehensive financial planning and analysis processes, procedures, and systems that support strategic decision-making. The position requires the preparation and analysis of financial reports and metrics, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and dashboards. The Director will prepare and present financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses to senior management and stakeholders, providing guidance and support to other departments in their financial analysis and decision-making processes. Additionally, the Director will lead the development of financial models and scenario analyses to evaluate potential business opportunities, acquisitions, and investments, working closely with the Chief Commercial Officer on construction projects and cash needs. Collaboration with senior management is essential for building annual budgets and periodic forecasts for all departments and channels. The Director will also work with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate audits and tax filings, while closely coordinating with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Furthermore, the Director will track capital acquisitions and prepare quarterly reports, manage insurance renewals, and handle general correspondence with brokers, providing policy coverage and assistance with related inquiries.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; MBA in Finance preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, with a significant portion in a leadership role.
  • Strong proficiency in financial systems.
  • Experience with BI software is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to develop financial models and perform complex scenario analysis.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • In-depth understanding of accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functional areas and with senior management.
