About the position

The Director of Finance at St. Vincent De Paul of Baltimore is responsible for overseeing a variety of professional functions related to grant accounting, compliance, and reporting. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of financial analysis, policy development, and the management of Accounts Payables, as well as the annual Single Audit process. The Director will ensure the timely and accurate management of all aspects of grants accounting, which includes monthly grant billings, pre-award planning, budgeting, analysis, forecasting, and reporting, while adhering to all applicable requirements. The position demands a high level of quality control, particularly in reviewing invoices related to grants and monitoring the collection of payments on all grants. In addition to managing grant-related financial activities, the Director will prepare a monthly financial reporting package that includes key performance indicators (KPIs) such as spend-down and receivables aging. This role also supports the overall budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and analysis for the organization. The Director will communicate regularly with both internal stakeholders, such as the Grants and various Program departments, and external stakeholders, including funders, to provide exceptional customer service regarding financial management and sustainability. The Director will serve as a key contact for all grants and organizational financial activity, providing financial analysis, management support, and guidance. Responsibilities include preparing, reviewing, and distributing monthly financial reports to internal stakeholders, supporting the Grants department with information requests for grant proposals, and ensuring compliance with funders' terms and conditions. The Director will also oversee the preparation and issuance of a monthly grants dashboard, manage labor distributions for grants, and coordinate with HR and Payroll to ensure accurate allocations. Furthermore, the Director will prepare all Federal grant-related schedules for annual audit requirements and assist with the annual audit as needed. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to maintain a neat and organized work area. The Director will also be expected to attend staff meetings, assist with special events, and uphold the vision, mission, and values of St. Vincent De Paul, creating an atmosphere of care and respect for clients, staff, funders, and other partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of grants accounting, including monthly grant billings, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Perform quality control reviews of invoices related to grants and monitor collections of payments.

  • Prepare all Federal grant-related schedules for annual audit requirements.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and analysis schedules as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4 years of experience in accounting/finance, preferably in the nonprofit field.
  • 2 years of experience working with grants.
  • Supervisory experience in a financial context.
  • Budgeting experience and knowledge of nonprofit fund and federal grant accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as accounting software and data management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with vendors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-level service to multiple customers in a nonprofit context.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with urgency.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
