About the position

The Director of Finance at Planned Parenthood California Central Coast (PPCCC) is responsible for overseeing the organization's financial operations, providing leadership, and ensuring compliance within the finance department. This role involves developing collaborative relationships across departments, guiding strategic financial decision-making, and implementing continuous process improvements to maintain an efficient and compliant finance function.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees monthly ledger closing, including preparation of financial reports (P&L), reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, and preparation of balance sheet and cash flow statement.
  • Develops and prepares other monthly reports on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborates with Community Engagement to ensure the accuracy of expense assignments between PPCCC and Planned Parenthood Central Coast Action Fund.
  • Oversees the distribution of timely, complete, and accurate internal reports for budget center managers and external stakeholders.
  • Establishes and maintains written accounting procedures to ensure internal control and accurate financial information.
  • Works with other departments to ensure internal controls are in place for accurate financial records.
  • Ensures appropriate internal controls for cash disbursements.
  • Manages bi-weekly payroll processing, ensuring efficient systems and controls.
  • Works closely with Human Resources for payroll accuracy and management of timekeeping systems.
  • Leads process improvement, automation, and standardization of financial operations.
  • Oversees accounts payable and ensures timely payment of invoices.
  • Completes weekly positive pay file for banking and communicates cash needs to CFO.
  • Supports the development of annual operating and capital budgets, including variance reports and analysis.
  • Provides support and analysis for long-term financial plans.
  • Collaborates with the Revenue Cycle Director for accurate financial reporting from billing systems.
  • Collaborates with the Philanthropy Department to track revenue and grant expenses accurately.
  • Oversees preparation of billings and invoices for all grants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of management experience required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the accounting field or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting systems is highly desirable.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of Great Plains accounting software desired.
  • Advanced use of Excel, Axxess, and other analytical software.
