About the position

The Director of Finance at EOAC is responsible for managing the organization's financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations, and supporting financial decision-making processes. This role involves overseeing accounting, payroll, budgeting, and billing-reimbursement, while maintaining accurate financial records and preparing for audits. The Director will collaborate with program directors and stakeholders to utilize financial data effectively and ensure the organization's financial health.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all financial affairs of the corporation using generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the financial operations under the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization's operations.
  • Reconcile all accounts to the balance sheet on a monthly basis to ensure financial accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee payroll accounting methods, including special functions required by employee benefit or retirement plans and insurance accounting.
  • Ensure the timely completion of the audit and prepare audit workpapers.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal grant laws and regulations and other relevant regulations.
  • Review entries in all ledgers monthly to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist and support program directors in utilizing financial data for planning purposes and building effective budgets.
  • Provide monthly financial information to stakeholders, including revenue and expense summary reports.
  • Recruit, hire, and train competent accounting/finance personnel, and design department workflows.
  • Establish a Financial Policy Manual to be updated every three years and amended as needed.
  • Maintain a working relationship with all program directors and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or financial management roles, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • CPA certification or equivalent certification.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and audit principles and practices.
  • Excellent budget preparation and financial reporting skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and take initiative when necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OMB Circulars A-87, A-110, A-122 and A-133 is preferred.
