About the position

The Director of Finance serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership team, responsible for managing and controlling all financial-related activities to enhance and maintain the financial health of the council. This role involves the day-to-day responsibilities of developing and administering the Council's strategic plan. The Director oversees Finance, Retail, Product, and Human Resource services, ensuring these departments operate efficiently and effectively while supporting the mission of Girl Scouts and adhering to relevant federal and state guidelines. In addition to managing financial operations, the Director of Finance supports the Board of Directors by preparing reports and analyses that facilitate effective governance and decision-making for the Finance Committee and Audit/Risk Management Committee. This full-time position offers a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, and a retirement plan. The minimum starting salary for this position is $70,000, commensurate with experience. Essential duties include managing finance operations to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and reporting, overseeing audits, employee benefit plans, and regulatory filings. The Director collaborates with the CEO to develop the Council's budget and operating plan, ensuring resource allocation aligns with the strategic plan. They are also responsible for developing financial policies and procedures, managing the Council's banking and investments, and providing financial analysis to the CEO and Board of Directors. The role requires promoting cultural competence and fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and access within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Finance and perform day-to-day operations to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and reporting.
  • Oversee financial and operational audits, employee benefit plans, accounting, and payroll, and prepare regulatory filings.
  • Support the CEO in leading the development of the Council's budget and operating plan, ensuring resource allocation reflects the achievement of the council's strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures that govern the organization's financial operations and ensure transparency in financial reporting.
  • Manage and track the Council's banking, endowment, and financial investments.
  • Provide financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting to the CEO and the Board of Directors regarding the impacts of council initiatives.
  • Collaborate with human resources to ensure effective recruitment, training, and performance management processes are in place.
  • Oversee the work of the retail and product teams to ensure the Council's financial and strategic goals are met.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulations.
  • Promote and demonstrate cultural competence and foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.

Requirements

  • Expertise in financial accounting and reporting.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and financial planning.
  • Significant experience in financial management (7 years).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strength in strategic planning, problem solving, and project management with attention to detail.
  • Ability to leverage critical thinking skills around data for impactful business decisions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Travel throughout council jurisdiction up to 20% of the time.
  • Capability to provide own transportation and maintain a valid operator license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and internet technology.
  • Registration as a member of Girl Scouts Heart of the South.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in fund accounting or nonprofit accounting preferred.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Sage 300 accounting software or similar software program desired.
  • Experience managing operating budgets of at least $4 million.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Executive team and Board experience preferred.
