About the position

Proper Hospitality is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of Finance to join the team at Shelborne Miami Beach by Proper, a renowned hotel re-opening and debuting in our portfolio in early 2025. Our property will introduce four vibrant new food & beverage destinations to the neighborhood, each suited for warm weather dining, with an all-day signature restaurant, a lobby bar-lounge, and curated cafe. Resort amenities will include a spacious pool and lush garden lounge, indoor-outdoor cabanas, sundeck terrace, state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated access to a private beach club, and more than 15,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting & event space. The Director of Finance will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the hotel, ensuring the integrity of financial data and providing strategic financial guidance to support the hotel's growth and profitability. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in finance, accounting and hospitality industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement financial strategies to achieve the hotel's business goals
• Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to support decision-making
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management
• Prepare and present accurate financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
• Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and accounting standards
• Oversee the preparation of annual budgets and long-term financial plans
• Monitor budget performance and implement corrective actions as needed
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement
• Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard the hotel's assets
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations
• Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory bodies as necessary
• Collaborate with the revenue management team to optimize pricing strategies and maximize revenue
• Analyze market trends and competitor performance to inform financial strategies
• Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
• Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team members' skills and knowledge
• Build and maintain relationships with financial institutions, vendors, and stakeholders
• Negotiate contracts and agreements to benefit the hotel's financial position

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the hospitality industry
• Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting principles, and regulations
• Proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Excel)
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
