About the position

The Director of Finance at Hotel Cleveland Marriott is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel. This position involves providing guidance and support to management, ensuring profitability, maintaining accurate financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The Director will also focus on safeguarding the assets of owners and investors while fostering a culture of growth and development within the finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the financial impact on business decisions.
  • Ensure that all levels of management are promptly notified of any financial deviations from established policies and/or control weaknesses in the hotel.
  • Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues to management and ownership.
  • Prepare accurate and timely cash-flow statements, manage receivables, cash balances, and ensure timely deposits of all funds.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Investigate and critique variances to budget or prior year and offer practical improvement strategies to management.
  • Assist management with the capital planning process, including calculations of return on capital improvements and monitoring the bid process.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes.
  • Coordinate the completion of all forecasts and budgets with the management team.
  • Analyze financial data and operations to assist management in maintaining financial objectives.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations.
  • Establish and audit all internal financial controls, including purchasing, cash handling, and payroll.
  • Actively participate in hiring and developing professional staff for future leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a financial leadership role within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and ownership regarding financial matters.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and internal controls.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hotel management software and financial systems.
  • Advanced degree in finance or accounting.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA or CMA.
